    LIFTING UP COMMUNITIES

Supporting and giving back to the neighbourhoods in which we operate

Kennards Hire is first and foremost a family business and it's with great pride that we are able to give back to the communities in which our people work and live.

For decades, we’ve been getting in and helping out, to lift up communities. Behind the scenes, across every area of our business, our branches and teams support every-day activities that put a genuine, fair dinkum face to our values.

Our support comes in many ways including (but not limited to) discounted or free equipment hire, gift vouchers, financial contributions, commercial sponsorships, employee volunteering and disaster relief support.

We also proudly support the Kennards Hire Foundation and its partners with in-kind provision of equipment and services.

"Kennards is part of our team, and we're part of theirs. We get our working bee days off to a good start with a great yarn with Andrew and the crew at Kennards Invercargill while picking up their quality gear." - Gerry Forde, Manager, Southland Spirit Army

    Local Sponsorships and Donations

We’re all involved in lifting up communities, whether it’s our people digging in, branches lending equipment, or the business driving fundraising campaigns, we help our local community clubs, local events, grassroots sporting teams, and schools gear themselves for the future.

Across our branch network, we support well over 1,000 community groups and activities each year.

"Kennard's Hire has been a major sponsor of Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club for many years and are part of our Mermaid family. Kennard's ongoing support is invaluable to our many surf sports programs which enable us to keep the community safe on the beach at Mermaid Beach." - Lee Murphy, Business Administrator, Mermaid Beach AEME S.L.S.C.

    Volunteering and Fundraising

At Kennards Hire we're committed to supporting our neighbourhoods and communities. As well as financial support through commercial sponsorships and in-kind donations, our branch teams provide people power by offering their time and skills to not-for profit organisations, schools, community groups and social enterprises. Our team assist with fundraising and provide hands-on assistance to help those in-need achieve their goals.

    Disaster and Crisis Support

Our teams are always on hand to help if a natural disaster hits their area. They get behind moving equipment to and from disaster zones and supporting local recovery programs. Service is at the heart of what we do and, with a spirit of safety and collaboration, we're able to work together in times of strife to help lift up communities in need.

Thanks to our large network, we can mobilise equipment from hire centres around Australia and New Zealand to swiftly respond to damage caused by natural disasters.

With over 210 branches across Australia and New Zealand, we're able to support local communities during the good times and the bad.

“We’re in it with our customers. We know what it’s like to go through this, because our branches are affected as well.” – Dean Muir, Kennards’ National Operations Specialist, Pumps

    Stories From Around the Ground

    Gazelles Netball Club

Led by Adam Thompson, the team at our Windsor Branch in New South Wales have been supporting the Gazelles Netball Club for the last four years by partnering as major sponsor and providing free equipment for their events.

The branches contribution allows the club, which is largely run by parents and volunteers, to keep operating, giving young girls the chance to participate in local sport, develop their skills and socialise with others in their community. Adam and the team have been known to man the BBQ for the sausage sizzle and help with events like the clubs Spirit Day.

The Hutt Street Centre – Walk a Mile in my Boots

Hutt St Centre helps people facing homelessness to rebuild their lives, without judgement. Each year they serve around 40,000 meals and offers social work and support services to nearly 2,000 people.

Our South Australian team have been supporting The Hutt Street Centre in Adelaide for many years and there has never been a more urgent need to provide nourishing meals, laundry facilities, medical care, and hot showers to help people doing it tough in the community. That’s why our South Australian team were there during National Homeless Week for the annual Walk a Mile in My Boots event. Together with over 2,000 others they helped to raised $558,489 with funds going to support over 7,000 people experiencing homelessness in South Australia.

It takes the support of an entire community to end homelessness.

    QLD Flood Assistance

When QLD experienced disastrous flooding in 2022, our staff were in the think of it with Indooroopilly and Rocklea branches needing to be evacuated and many of our crew volunteering to help keep the waters at bay as well as cleaning up the mess after it.

One example of quick response on the frontline comes from our team in Brisbane. With floodwaters rapidly rising at the riverside restaurant precinct, we were able to organise some serious pumps for us at Howard Smith Wharves at short notice. The water had risen to fill the car park’s B2 level, cutting the power switches housed there but the team were there with two pumps within the hour and when all was set up, they were pumping 180 to 190 litres of water out per second. With service at the heart of what we are about, and a spirit of collaboration within the company we are able to work together and lift up communities in need.

    Oxfam Trailwalker Adventure

Our Victorian management team hit the trails for the Oxfam Trailwalker challenge to support Oxfam's lifesaving work in tackling poverty. The trek is an opportunity to make a real difference in the fight against poverty and suffering worldwide and with the support of the entire Kennards Hire family, they managed to raise four thousand dollars and achieved their mission to effect change, lend a hand to those in need, and exemplify the essence of teamwork.

    Dural Men's Shed

The Dural Men's Shed took their hats off to our Penrith Branch team for their community support during the Lismore floods in 2022.

“Kennards, once again generously provided to the Men’s Shed at Dural a Pantec truck to deliver much needed goods to the flood affected families around Lismore. On two occasions, Kennards Hire - Penrith, at no charge, provided a Pantec truck, it’s insurance, unlimited kilometres and a full tank of fuel.” - Noel Frappell, Ian Tooke and John Sharples

To show their gratitude, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Kennards Hire Penrith on behalf of Men’s Shed.

    Sound Sensitivity Station

Over-stimulation to noise, particularly in higher sound intensive areas of stadiums such as front-of-stage, is a common trigger for sound sensitive individuals.

In collaboration with the Eden Park team, Kennards Hire have implemented permanent Sound Sensitivity Stations which dispense free ear plugs to fans on a self-serve basis.

To ensure prime accessibility, the stations are positioned at different locations within the stadium grounds based on need and are restocked ahead of all major concerts and sporting events.

This is a first of its kind initiative at a major New Zealand venue and we hope that it will help individuals with sound sensitivity to experience the magic of big game days and concerts without the risk of being overwhelmed by noise levels.
