If your bathroom is looking a little tired this spring, why not challenge yourself with a renovation project in time for summer?

One of the easiest ways to inject life back into this room is by incorporating tiling into your bathroom DIY project.

Tiles can look drab and become discoloured over time and if they are in need of more than just a good clean, you may want to consider retiling the area.

While every tiling job is different, there are a number of common considerations that should be kept in mind.

Before you start your project it is vital to have the right equipment. Angle grinders, cutters and tile saws can be expensive, so why not head down to your local Kennards Hire store to get your tool needs sorted.

Once you have removed the existing tiles or flooring, it is important to thoroughly clean and dry the sub-floor.

When purchasing tiles, allow ten per cent extra for any cuts, wastage and potential mistakes - this will save your project being stalled if you run out of materials.

If you are tiling the walls and floor, start with the former and work your way from the centre of the surface to the outside.

Once you have laid your tiles, you can start grouting, working the mixture into the gaps with a squeegee. Wipe surface clean to remove excess grout when you are finished.
